For the next 2 weeks, we will be reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Written in 1972, this realistic fiction novel is still relevant to the lives of 2011 fourth graders. Who doesn't know an annoying 2 1/2 year old or hasn't been misunderstood by parents?

On the first day of each week, we will copy a poem using cursive writing into our writing journals.

Scientist Projects

Students presented their scientist projects today. Some created power points, some made brochures and a few others dressed up as scientists.

This week's reading selection is Letters Home from Yosemite.

Book Orders

On Friday, students brought home book order forms. Book orders will be due September 9th. You can order books in one of 2 ways.

1. Complete the order forms on the back of the orders and return them to school.

2. Order online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and register on the parent page. When prompted, enter the class activation code of H2XGW . This will allow you to order all year.

Book clubs are a great way to get books for you child. They have great books at great prices. It also allows me the opportunity to add to our classroom library.

Parent Information Night

The Parent Information Night for fourth grade will be this Thursday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m.

2 Days In!

We are two days into what looks to be a very successful school year. We created a vision statement together that will guide us through our days.

We, the students of Mrs. Putnam's class, are here to learn math and reading
so we can earn good grades, move on to fifth grade, get a good job and go to college.
We will do this by participating, studying, paying attention, and doing our work.
By doing these things and respecting others, we will SOAR to success.

Friday: Spelling test, multiplication timed test (zeroes and ones)

Open House Success

It was great to see so many students and parents (89%) at last night's open house. For those of you who were unable to attend, I look forward to meeting you on Monday. Please remember that each child should bring photos, magazine pictures or things like scrap-booking supplies that represent his/her interests to use on a writing journal. Materials used will not be returned.
